Crucifix Acceptable in Classrooms, European Court Rules

PARIS – The European Court of Human Rights ruled Friday that crucifixes are acceptable in Italian public school classrooms, in a decision that has implications in 47 countries.

The ruling overturned a decision the court had reached in November 2009 in which it said the crucifix could be disturbing to non-Christian or atheist pupils. Several European countries appealed that ruling.


The case originated in Italy, and Friday's final verdict was immediately welcomed in Rome and at the Vatican. "The popular sentiment in Europe has won today," said Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini.  http://yhoo.it/gVWPdm


It is nice to see a world court that rules on the side of traditional religious values instead of agnosticism.  In the U.S., the courts have become so liberal as to entirely eliminate our religious heritage from our governmental and educational institutions.  Historically the U.S. was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, but you can scarcely tell it now.  The lack of religion in our culture has eroded the moral fiber of our country and is making our nation almost unrecognizable from the strong, decisive nation that we once were.


I just hope that it is not too late for us to turn this moral disaster around.
